Thien Nguyen, MPH
Director, Information Strategy
In her role, Thien heads data and information strategy for IHA’s programs, products, and initiatives, including performance measurement and reporting, benchmarking, and industry alignment. She is an internal subject matter expert on industry regulations, such as the California Department of Managed Health Care and the California Department of Health Care Services policies. Thien also oversees the measurement strategy for IHA’s four Align. Measure. Perform. (AMP) programs, including measure set strategy, maintenance and development, public reporting, public recognition, incentive design, and measure alignment work.
More recently, she began leading the data standards workstream for the Encounter Data Governance Entity (EDGE), an initiative to improve encounter data collection and reporting. She also oversees IHA’s Governance Committee, Technical Measurement Committee, and Technical Payment Committee. Over the course of her career, Thien has developed deep expertise in performance measurement, encounter data standardization, and health equity and quality.
Before stepping into her current role, Thien served in a variety of data operations, project management, and senior analyst positions at IHA. Prior to joining IHA, she worked as a Project Manager for Boston University’s School of Public Health, supporting the implementation of National Institutes of Health-funded research projects and coordinating the activities of several collaborators, including the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Thien graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and earned a Master of Public Health degree from Boston University.
