Updated training: Breast Cancer Screening Transition to ECDS-only reporting in AMP MY 2023
On July 17, 2023, IHA hosted an NCQA-led training webinar on the Breast Cancer Screening measure’s transition to ECDS-only reporting. The Breast Cancer Screening measure (BCS) will transition to Electronic Clinical Data System (ECDS) reporting in Measurement Year (MY) 2023.
Training #1: An Introduction to HEDIS Electronic Clinical Data Systems (ECDS)
On July 15, 2022, IHA and NCQA hosted the first of three, one-hour technical training sessions to introduce HEDIS Electronic Clinical Data Systems (ECDS) reporting. While each training session will have a slightly different focus, Prenatal Immunization Status (PRS-E) will be highlighted throughout as it will be a testing measure in AMP Commercial HMO and Medi-Cal Managed Care in Measurement Year (MY) 2022.
In the first training session, Emily Morden, Director of Electronic Measurement Strategy at NCQA, provided an overview of the HEDIS ECDS Reporting Standard and discussed strategies and resources that can be used to support ECDS reporting.
Training #2: Focus on Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR)
On August 3, 2022, IHA and NCQA hosted the second ECDS technical training session to introduce Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR). Kat Sobel, Senior Research Associate for Performance Measurement at NCQA, and Michael Ryan, Digital Measure Programmer III for Performance Measurement at NCQA, provided an overview of FHIR and shared why it is encouraged as a standard way of exchanging data between healthcare entities and how FHIR is a key facilitator for ECDS reporting.
Training #3: Focus on Clinical Quality Language (CQL)
IHA and NCQA hosted the third ECDS technical training session on August 25, 2022, featuring Kat Sobel, Senior Research Associate for Performance Measurement at NCQA, and Michael Ryan, Digital Measure Programmer III for Performance Measurement at NCQA. The final training provided an overview of Clinical Quality Language (CQL), a human readable measure authoring standard which provides a view of how a measure is processed electronically. HEDIS digital quality measures specifications are expressed using CQL and FHIR.
